Our Team

We create bespoke project teams to address specific client challenges and objectives.

Ideaz is a team of designers, engineers, and visionaries who share a common goal – to have a positive impact on you, your business, and your customers. Our ability to differentiate and innovate is highlighted by the fact that our team members are named on over 75 patents, both design and utility.

Jim Sener – principal/creative director

Jim found his passion and purpose in industrial design by chance. Since then, he has been immersed in everything design related. He is laser-focused on end users and growing Ideaz’ client’s businesses.

When not traveling the world, you’ll find Jim paddleboarding, riding one of his (many) bicycles or planning his next trip. With a passion for life and a never-ending quest for change, he is energized by creating impactful new products that genuinely help people live + work + play.

Dave Mathieu – principal/engineering director

Give Dave a challenge and he will drive to a solution with incredible persistence. Using his background in engineering and a craving for creating unique products that are truly better and different, Dave has been named an inventor on over 50 patents.

A perfect day for Dave starts with coffee with his family and ends with a sunset horseback ride on nearby trails by the Connecticut River. Dave strives to have a positive impact on people and how they live + work + play.

Jesse Kruska – mechanical design engineer

A typical day for Jesse starts with a cup of English Breakfast tea, and eventually devolves into a lively debate about typography. Known as a designer trapped in an engineer’s body, he aspires to blur the lines between form and function.

Since becoming a father, he no longer has “free time,” but if he did, he would spend it cooking, camping, kayaking, and being alliterative.

Garrett Fink – mechanical design engineer

Garrett brings over 17 years of engineering experience to Ideaz.  He thrives on the challenge of solving novel problems and executing concept development.  Equally at home modeling on the computer or building prototypes in the shop, Garrett is constantly designing and problem-solving.  Outside of work, you will find Garrett running, biking, building guitars, and hiking with his boys.

Andrew Reed – senior industrial designer

Andrew comes to Ideaz as a seasoned industrial designer whose creative process consists of collaboration, experimentation, and innovation. His user-centered approach puts people first with a keen eye for clean design.
When he’s not in the studio, you’ll find him making furniture, battling house projects or cycling the hills of Connecticut.

Chris Hageman – 3D design manager

Having been with Ideaz since year one, and with 20 plus years of product development experience, Chris is Ideaz’s resident jack of all trades. Whether it’s industrial design concepting, CAD surface creation or 3D mechanical detailing, Chris revels in bridging the gap between art and engineering.

In his free time, you will likely find him mountain biking, hiking, in the kitchen creating good eats or spending quality time with his wife and twin boys.

Tom Virgin – graphics/web/photography

Don’t bother asking Tom what a typical day entails (unless you enjoy boggled silence). His wonderfully diverse schedule is the product of a skill set encompassing illustration, graphic design, programming, photography, videography, digital editing, and music. If it’s related to arts, web, or marketing, Tom is probably doing it.

Being from a family of engineers, he always has a few new product ideas in the works and tends to spend every available moment playing with his kids, cooking, or reading.

John Records – industrial designer

John starts his day with several cups of coffee and a loud playlist. He loves color but cannot choose a favorite. He loves the design process and believes that great design is the result of close collaboration. He has a keen sense for simplicity and contemporary style and is always looking for ways to improve products and make people smile.

In his free time, he likes to paint old skateboards and watch documentaries. On the weekends he is rarely home. He loves to spend time with his wife, skateboard, rock climb, hike, and snowboard all over New England and is always looking for a new way to explore the world around him.
